A successful Pilates teacher training program should provide professional branded resources to potential student teachers. The school catalog is a key resource to create and make available to everyone considering your program. It tells people how your school operates and what content is covered. It can be a defining factor in how a student teacher selects a teacher training program.

To attract students to your program, make sure your catalog is professionally organized and looks good. This immediately sets the tone to your students that your program is reputable and trustworthy.

Beyond looks, make sure to include:

  • Program costs and payment plans: Students will want to know the overall price of your program immediately while also knowing that you’ll support them in affording the program by offering a payment plan.
  • Program and course offerings: Students will also need to know exactly what they’ll learn in your program. Do you teach each apparatus or only mat? Do you cover anatomy, Pilates history, and other supplementary (but crucial!) content? How will they spend the 450+ hours of training?
  • Graduation requirements: Let students know exactly what they need to do to complete your program. This should include how you’ll assess their progress.
  • Attendance requirements: Students will need to know what happens if they get sick or can’t attend a lecture for a different reason.

Do I need a school catalog?

Different locations have different requirements around school catalogs. For instance, Colorado requires the school catalog to be posted online. Check with your state or country’s department of education to learn what’s required.

Whether or not you are required to have a catalog, though, the catalog is a great tool in presenting your school offerings to potential students. It differentiates your program from others and makes it clear that your program is professional and worth attending. Fortunately, you only need to create this catalog once and make edits only as needed.

Consider posting your catalog online to make it easy for people to browse it from home as well as printing it out and making it available in your studio for people to review or take a copy.

Creating a catalog

Create your school catalog as you’re planning your teacher training program. Creating the catalog as you make key choices about your program works well because one can inform the other. For example, when you figure out your attendance policy to put in your school catalog, it will inform decisions you make about your program’s schedule.

PEI’s online platform includes a school catalog template that makes it easy to create a catalog with all of the important information your students need. To learn more about PEI, get in touch!
